CPI backs junior docs’ stir

Government must come clean on liquor syndicates by revealing details of the ACB report, demanded the CPI state secretary, Mr K. Narayana.

Government must come clean on liquor syndicates by revealing details of the ACB report, demanded the CPI state secretary, Mr K. Narayana.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr Narayana alleged that the Congress was bent on using the liquor mafia for its political gain apart from fleecing crores of rupees from people.

Referring to government’s exchequer of Rs.18,000 crore a year through liquor auctions, the CPI leader said that the liquor syndicates were earning even more, a whopping Rs.50,000 crore.

He demanded that government reveal the facts of the ACB report which contained the names of people’s representatives and excise officials involved in liquor syndicates all over the state. He warned of a statewide agitation along with Left parties if government does not do so before February 18.

He lamented government’s laxity in resolving the issues of junior doctors (JUDA).

Justifying junior doctors’ demands, Mr Narayana said that it was not fair to pressurise junior doctors without paying them adequately.

Citing government’s policies on VAT, hike in electricity tariffs and other issues, the CPI leader predicted that it was not possible for the Kiran Kumar Reddy led Congress government to last till 2014.

The CPI state leader, Mr Ramakrishna, Mr Bhima Lingappa, Ramanjaneyulu, Mr Rasool and Mr Muneppa, were among others present at the meeting.

Later, speaking at the CPI council meet at C.R. Bhavan, Mr Narayana said that there was an imperative need to introduce changes in liquor auctions in the state.

He asked people to take part in the nation-wide protest against the Central and state governments for their anti-workers’ policies on February 28.

He called upon party activists to take part in the CPI state meet to be held in Karimnagar.

Meanwhile, Mr Ramanjaneyulu was unanimously elected as the district secretary of the AP Rythu Sangham.
