Soumya case: Chargesheet submitted

The special investigation team probing the rape and murder of train commuter Soumya on Tuesday submitted its chargesheet against the accused, Govindaswamy, before the Wadakanchery judicial first class magistrate.

The Narcotic Cell DySP, Mr P. Radhakrishnan, leading the police team, submitted the 60-page charge sheet. Soumya was attacked by Govindaswamy while she was on a train journey to her home at Shoranur on February 1.

She jumped out of the train in panic and suffered severe injuries. The one-armed assailant jumped down after her and raped her on the rail tracks and later murdered her. The incident created uproar in the state.
The chargesheet has included the details of 156 witnesses and 70 pieces of evidence. According to it, all the witnesses identified Govindaswamy.

Details of semen, blood and DNA tests were also included in the chargecheet. The accused, a native of Tamil Nadu, was earlier charged in nine cases registered in various stations in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
