End corruption and no pollution is the mission of Syed Muzakkir Ahmed from Bengaluru whose passion for solar power even earned him the name ‘Solar’ Ahmed.

He drove from Bengaluru in a solar car he developed to meet Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer on Monday to seek his blessings for his crusade against corruption. And Justice Iyer was all praise for the efforts of Solar Ahmed.

Senior freedom fighter in Karnataka, Mr Doraiswamy, flagged off his campaign on February 6. Ahmed hopes to travel at least 1,000 km covering 200 villages and small towns in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

“The solar car is very simple to drive and is auto geared, making things pretty easy for anyone,” says Mr Ahmed.

A total Rs 52,000 was spent on the car. It has solar panels of 250 watts and on a given day, drawing heat from the sun, the car can cover 70 km. “It is the responsibility of every citizen to keep the environment clean, says Solar Ahmed.

Mr Ahmed had earlier developed prototypes of a solar scooter and a solar autorickshaw. He has been constantly working on automobile models running on the solar
energy.
