India can solve its poverty only through entrepreneurship, said Infosys founder and mentor N.R. Narayana Murthy here on Tuesday.
He was speaking at a function, organised by DC Books on the occasion of the release of the Malayalam translation of his book ‘Better India, Better World.’
Murthy, however, said that the country had made giant strides in addressing poverty in the recent past and that never before in the last 300 years had India received the respect it was getting from the community of nations now. Consolidating this gain was the responsibility of the youth, he reminded them.
He said that in this the centre and the state governments need to back the youth by ensuring food security, improving urban planning, controlling the population and raising the export volume.
Later while interacting with students, Murthy said that encouraging students to have critical thinking was crucial to improving education.
“For this we need better teachers and to attract best talents to the teaching profession we have to give them better salaries and other rewards,” he said.
When asked what makes an enterprise succeed, Moorthy said that the idea should be so simple that its value could be expressed in a simple sentence. “The market should also be ready for your idea,” he added.
To another question, he explained why Mahatma Gandhi was his ideal. “He walked the talk and this has a great impact on his followers.”
Jose Dominic, president of the Kerala chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) released the book by handing Murthy a copy.
