
Tens of thousands of devotees took part in the Ekadasi celebrations at the Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple here on Tuesday.
There had been heavy rush for darshan at the temple since Monday evening with devotees forming serpentine queues outside.
Devaswom tantri Chanas Vasudevan Naboothirip-padu led the poojas. The Udayasthamana pooja (dawn-to-dusk rites) and kazhcha seeveli was performed in the morning.
The renowned elephant Guruvayur Padmanabhan carried the kolam (idol) of the deity in Kazhcha Seeveli performed to the accompaniment of panchari melam led by Peruvanam Kuttan Marar.
As many as 20,000 devotees took part in the ceremonial feast (prasada oottu) served outside the temple.
Various programmes were held as part of observance of Bhagavad Gita Day. It is believed that Lord Krishna narrated the Gita on Guruvayur Ekadasi Day.
