Collectorate trips on power failures

Frequent power disruption at the district collectorate has badly hit operations and makes life difficult of the people who visit the various offices housed there. Senior citizens and the physically challenged often have to climb the stairs of the four-storied building complex.

“Power goes off at least three times during the working hours in our office. It may take nearly an hour for resume supply. It disrupts our work,” said a government official, Mr P. Bahuleyan.

Officials add that the fuse of the transformer at the collectorate goes off often due to overload, which results in the frequent power failures. “We have a three-phase connection but we get power supply only through one phase. As a result, we can’t use the lift or the water pump,”said another official, Mr K. Roy.

Public work department officials say that leakage in the service cable to the collectorate also causes the power loss.

The electricity board officials had detected some damage in the cable and said that they would be replacing it soon which has not happened so far.

But KSEB officials ruled out all this and said that it was owing to the poor maintenance of the wiring system.

“The problem is not with the transformer. The transformer at the collectorate has no issue of overload. There might be a leakage in the internal wiring system at the collectorate as nobody ever thinks about maintenance,” said a KSEB engineer at the Thrikkakara office.
