The district collector, Mr P.I. Sheikh Pareeth, will leave for the US on Tuesday for learning about advanced solid waste management technology.
“This is not an official visit, I just want to get some ideas about latest technology in waste treatment, and study the feasibility of the technology here,” Mr Pareeth said.
“The state has not adopted a common and scientific method for waste treatment so far. So we are planning to introduce a pyrolysis waste treatment plant, which costs Rs 5.5 crore and capable of treating 20 tonnes of solid waste every day,” he said. “The solid waste are processed and decomposed in high temperature in this system.”
District authorities are planning to implement the first unit of this plant at Kadamakkkudi with the help of Ghoshree Island Development Authority and Kerala Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation.
Mr Pareeth will also visit Kerala Aqua Ventures International Ltd (KAVIL) unit in Chicago during his trip.
