TSR meets PM, seeks national tag for water projects

Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to declare the Polavaram and Pranahita-Chevella projects in Andhra Pradesh as national projects.

Dr Reddy, who is also chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on science and technology and environment and forests, appraised the Prime Minister that the projects had been pending for a long time.
Dr Reddy, who was all praise for Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy for “starting various welfare schemes and their successful implementation in the state,” also discussed issues of environment and pollution during his meeting with the Prime Minister.

“The Chief Minister is very successful in achieving speedy progress of the state,” Dr Reddy informed the Prime Minister, after which Dr Singh appreciated the Chief Minister.

Dr Reddy, who brought to the Prime Minister’s notice various issues concerning Andhra Pradesh, also requested Dr Singh to allot a suitable mine for the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. He told the Prime Minister that the plant, which had been running successfully, was suffering for want of iron ore.

The Prime Minister expressed his happiness over the work done by the parliamentary committee headed by Dr Reddy, which brought together all major industries around Vizag to take up massive plantation to the tune of 40 lakh trees.
