TD puts Mopidevi in the dock on liquor

Disregarding repeated denials, the Telugu Desam on Wednesday put excise minister Mopidevi Venkataramana in the dock, alleging that his son, Rajeev is deeply involved in the liquor trade.

TD Legislature Party leaders released copies of an agreement between Secunderabad-based Credence Venture Capital and Chennai-based Arthos Breweries Ltd. for contract brewing licence and alleged that the excise minister's son has got state-wide sales and marketing rights of Black Eagle Xtra beer, manufactured by the Belgium-based liquor major InBev, through Credence Venture Capital in which he is a partner.

Earlier, the minister had admitted that Rajiv, who had stakes in Credence Venture capital partnership firm, got the marketing rights of the famous brand throughout the state last year but subsequently dropped out of the liquor business on moral grounds, as he was minister in charge of the department. However, TD leaders Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu, Dulipala Naren-dra and M. Narasimhulu insisted that Rajiv is still in the liquor business and also has stakes in manufacture of holograms.

“The firm owned by the minister's son entered into tripartite agreement with Arthos Breweries Limited on January 12 this year. The minister is lying," Mr Naidu alleged. The party is insists that Mr Venkataramana must be sacked from the Cabinet for allegedly accepting Rs 10 lakh bribe. The TD has also demanded the CM to dismiss three more ministers in connection with the scam.
