TD to boycott BAC meeting on Panel

Alleging that his party has not been properly represented in the House Committee on the land allotments made during former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's rule, Leader of the Opposition and Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday raised serious objections over the constitution of the panel.

In a letter to Assembly Speaker, Mr Naidu said that the House Committee was constituted without proper representation to the TD, in proportion to its numerical strength in the House. He also said that the panel was set up without consulting all the parties on the nomination of their members in the committee. Elsewhere, TD Legislature Party Deputy Leader M. Narasimhulu announced that the party will boycott the Business Advisory Committee meeting slated for Monday as well as the House Committee on land allotments till the panel is reconstituted.

Mr Naidu reminded Speaker Nadendla Mano-har that an assurance was given in the House almost one year earlier that the Terms of Reference of House Committee will be finalised after convening a meeting of the Floor leaders. He said that as against the assurance, the bulletin informing about the constitution of the House Committee was “very vague” about the Terms of Reference. “This will ultimately defeat the very purpose of forming the House Committee,” Mr Naidu's letter said.

He also stated that traditions and rules in formation of House Committees were violated, the principle of proportional representation has not been followed and composition of the committee is not in line with accepted norms. “It is quite shocking that even the members wee nominated without consulting the political parties. This is unprecedented in the annals of the Assembly” Mr Naidu stated. He demanded the reconstitution of the House Committee, including the Terms of the panel, adhering to the traditions of the House.
