Police told to get runaway techie

A local court directed the Kushaiguda police to produce a 37-year-old software engineer from the United States before it on March 13 in connection with a dowry harassment case. According to police, a non-bailable warrant has been pending against Suresh Kumar Akana since November 28, 2008 and he has been evading arrest by changing states in America.

According to police, Suresh Kumar, a native of Mogalthur in West Godavari district married Purnima in December 2005. A few months later the couple went to the US. “As he started harassing her, Purnima an MCA graduate threatened to file a case against him. Fearing the same, he convinced her and brought her back to India and escaped to the US in 2007 December with all her original certificates and credit and debit cards,” police said. “We gave him a total of Rs 15 lakh at the time of marriage. As he started torturing her for more money, we complained to police,” said K. Bala Venkateswara Rao, the woman’s mother. Suresh withdrew all the money, about US $28,000, Purnima earned while working in Satyam Computers. She filed a petition in a court in Boston seeking the money and a divorce.

Her father complained that Suresh Kumar had not only been absconding from trial here, but also getting her daughter’s case in Boston postponed stating that it can’t be heard as a case had been pending in India.
