The Eamcet online application system has evoked a good response on the first day with several overseas students submitting online applications on Sunday. This is the first time the Eamcet application proc-ess has gone totally online in its nearly three-decade-old history. Five hundred applications were received, of which around 50 were from overseas students based in the US, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, UAE, Australia and Taiwan.
Elaborate arrangements were made to ensure the online application system posed no problems, especially for students from rural areas, who are not well versed with the Net. About 350 helpline centres have been established in mandal and district headquarters and staff has been deputed to assist students.
Dr N.V. Ramana Rao, convener, Eamcet, says the online system has attracted more applicants. “We have received around 500 applications on day one. This is a record as we have never received such a large number of applications on the first day. Surprisingly, a significant number were from overseas students. Earlier, in the off-line mode, it used to take at least a week to receive the first application by post.”
Another advantage of the online system is that it gives instant confirmation through SMS and email.
The JNTU has made arrangements for students at 600 e-seva centres, 1,850 AP Online centres, and 1,300 Citizen Seva Centres.
