There is a shortage of mobile transformers in the old city and it takes hours to get one from the new city in case of a failure. This results in areas remaining without power for several hours.
Though the Central Discom officials said that a “rolling stock” is maintained in this part of the city, citizens said that the stock is not sufficient compared to the number of breakdowns reported here.
The problem is that there is only one transformer repair shed at Erragadda. Another shed in the old city would enable repairing or replacing transformers in an hour or two. But a proposal to set up another one in the old city has been pending for five years.
The MIM floor leader, Akbaruddin Owaisi, told this correspondent that there is a also a shortage of power sub - stations in old city. along with an acute shortage of assistant engineers.
