No retreat on liquor fight: TD

Telugu Desam president N, Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said that his party would pursue the liquor scandal vigorously and bring pressure on the government to take action against all those who are involved, including TD leaders if their names figure in the list. “The party will demand that the government tables the “untampered original” ACB report in the Assembly and also other remand reports from all districts,” Mr Naidu said.

“We have collected the ACB remand reports from seven districts. These were submitted to the court as they are public documents. But the real facts will come out only if the original ACB report which has names of several ministers, MLAs, MPs and other bigwigs is tabled,” he said. Asked if TD leaders too are involved, Mr Naidu said it would not matter whether TD, scribe or any other party is involved. “The fact is a group of people are looting the state. Names of three ministers, including excise minister Mopidevi Venk-ata Ramana and PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana, have already figured in the scandal,” he stated.

Mr Naidu said he was aghast that the government took action against liquor syndicates who paid kickbacks and officials who received these, but no action has been taken against the ministers and MLAs involved. The TD president, in an open letter to the public later in the day, sought the people’s cooperation in the party's fight against the liquor mafia and the uncontrolled flow of liquor in the state, affecting public health. “About 70 MLAs, 12 MPs besides MLCs, reportedly have connection with the liquor mafia,” he alleged.

“The names of ministers and MLAs were written by liquor syndicates after payment of kickbacks. I am doubtful if the government would reveal the truth and avoid tampering the records to save its skin. Already page 6 is missing in one remand report. Minister Ravindra Reddy has alleged that the Chief Minister is trying to protect a minister belonging to his community in Khammam,” Mr Naidu said. On the Emaar scandal, Mr Naidu said that he doesn’t favour scrapping of the project but wants action against the guilty, including invoking the Revenue Recovery Act to recover the loss.

The TD chief also objected to Speaker Nadendla Manohar adjourning the House when the Oppos-ition raised burning issues.
