A news reader working in a private TV channel committed suicide by hanging himself on Saturday night allegedly due to work pressure. The deceased Sabyasachi Patnaik, 27, joined the channel about 10 months ago and had been living with his colleague Jeenu Kumar in Dwarakamayi Nagar of Vanasthalipuram.
According to the Vanasthalipuram SI, Mr Y. Venkata Narayana, Patnaik reached home at around 5 pm on Saturday following which his colleague Jeenu Kumar, a reporter, went out for dinner. By the time he returned at around 8.30 pm, he saw Sabyasachi Patnaik hanging from the ceiling and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. According to police, he left a note written in Oriya which states “During dubbing, I didn’t perform well and was asked to practice well. I will practice and see that such situation does not reoccur.”
“We came to know that his father expired recently and he has a younger brother and a sister to look after. We suspect that he might have resorted to the extreme step due to work pressure and family problems,” the SI said. He was a native of Siddeshwar in Ganjam district of Odisha. After the post-mortem, police sent the body to Odisha. Vanasthalipuram police registered a case of suspicious death and is investigating.
