Talks between the striking junior doctors and the state government failed yet again on Saturday with both sides accusing each other of adopting an “adamant attitude.”
The junior doctors announced that they will intensify their agitation. The government directed the district collectors to make alternate arrangements to ensure that emergency services are not disrupted in the teaching hospitals and to ensure that patients are not affected. It also asked them to engage doctors from private hospitals for the purpose if needed.
The government is said to have decided to initiate action against junior doctors if they fail to attend to their duties from Monday. This includes cancellation of their degrees, if the situation demands.
The government is likely to direct the police to book criminal cases against junior doctors if they try to obstruct other doctors from performing their duties.
After the Cabinet sub-committee meeting, the minister for medical education, Mr Kondru Murali, speaking to reporters, said that the junior doctors refused to call off the strike despite the state government agreeing to fulfill 11 out of their 13 demands.
