GHMC to regulate vendors

Following directions from the AP High Court, Lok Ayukta and the SHRC, the GHMC revived the hawkers policy to protect the livelihood of roadside vendors in less than three days after removing over 3,000 encroachments from footpaths.

The GHMC commissioner, Mr M.T. Krishna Babu, while reiterating that all encroachments on footpaths will be removed, said hawking will be allowed at all times in green zones (roads with low traffic density) and at regulated times in amber zones (non-peak traffic hours in high traffic zones).

However, no hawking will be allowed at all in red zones (main roads with heavy traffic).

Meanwhile, the GHMC bulldozers will move against commercial establishments that have converted parking space in building sanction plans for other purposes from August 1
