Downsizing fears grip techies

Downsizing fears have gripped techies across the city.

While on the one hand the companies are finding it difficult to attract youngsters from other states, techies here are worried about the internal mails circulating in their companies about downsizing.
Considered as a trickle down effect of the state’s political uncertainty that has impacted the IT business, downsizing fears have triggered a lot of apprehensions among IT professionals.

“Over the last couple of weeks, most employees of our company have got mails from their colleagues on how the IT sector is going down, and how companies are planning large-scale downsizing,” said Vinay P., a software engineer.

In fact, professionals are sharing the information and cross checking with employees of other companies to get a clearer picture of the situation.

“I received a mail from our administration department about some companies planning downsizing. When I cross-checked with my college batchmates who are working with other companies, they confirmed the rumours. This has increased the stress levels among many professionals. We are looking for other options,” said Kruthika, another techie from the city.

Meanwhile, many infotech companies are either planning to or have already shifted their business expansion plans elsewhere as they do not want to put all their eggs in one basket.

“As many companies have kept expansion plans on hold and many others have partly shifted their operations to other cities, there are a lot of apprehensions,” said Bipin Chandra Pendyala, Secretary ITsA.
