Docs want Veena, Vani to go home

Eight-year-old conjoined twins, Vani and Veena’s world revolves round a little room in one corner of Niloufer Hospital with only a television set connecting them with the world outside. Ask them what they like to watch on TV and the two reply in unison, “cartoons!” Deprived of a normal childhood, the Siamese twins are only used to seeing people dressed in white and who have been taking care of Vaani and Veena.

The doctors and nurses of Niloufer Hospital recently sent a letter to the women and child welfare department requesting them to take steps for the overall development of the eight-year-old conjoined twins. Abandoned by their parents after birth, and who seldom come to visit them from Warangal, the twins have been cared for by the doctors and nurses of Niloufer Hospital for the last eight years. The government has asked the Niloufer staff to summon the parents and discuss the issue with them.

Away from peer groups and education, doctors fear that psychological and socio-cultural development of the kids will suffer in a hospital environment. Doctors explain that since the children are completely normal, it is important that their parents take them home and keep them with children of their age and educate them. However, the twin’s father, N. Murali, refused to take the twins back home. “We aren’t financially capable of looking after them at home. I have two more daughters, 11-year-old Indu and another daughter Sindhu born after the twins. The government had promised to get the twins operated. I only came as the doctors called me to speak about the children’s education.”

Cute childrens. I would like to watch both of them as individual. If it is possible to do by operation then i'm really interested to contribute towards their operation cost as much as i can.

will these kids be normal as other kids after separation through operation. any complications after the operations.
how much it costs for the operation.

Keerti Reddy 24/01/2012 - 09:16am

The Saudi health minister is known to be an expert with a 100% success rate on this type of operations may be the couple should appeal to the king of KSA and hope he heads their plea. For one th operation and post operative care will be free of cost for them and they can be assured of a successful procedure. More chances of King Abdullah heading their plea than the Indian govt. And even if some hospital does come forward it will be mainly for publicity they will do a good job only if the media puts them in the full glare of the public eye other wise God save the Twins.

Chetan 23/01/2012 - 07:18am

I will be more than happy to support and contribute towards a "fund" that will enable the operation to occur for separating the twins if this is an option.

Please let me know on details.

Dear DC,
Please make a note and try to pass my comments to twins parents about the successful surgery in Saudi Arabia - Riyadh and that too free, the parents has to write a letter to the His Excellency Custodian of Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah. The most successful surgeries performed by the Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeha (Minister of Health).

Therefore seeing a success rate globally, many gets operated here in Riyadh and later on left the kingdom health.

I Appreciate your initiative.

Regards,
Khan
