CBI to go after dons who fudge inspections

Several professors teaching in state universities are set to be prosecuted by the CBI for giving false inspection reports to the All India Council for Technical Education for starting new engineering colleges and increasing intake in existing colleges.

The government has given a go ahead after the CBI sought permission to prosecute the professors and the orders to this effect are expected shortly.

“The CBI had written to the government for prosecuting and to initiate disciplinary proceedings and imposing heavy penalties on the errant professors. The government is ready to give permission to the CBI for the purpose. The file is with the government and orders will be issued shortly,” said a senior official of the Higher Education department.

The professors are facing charges of giving false inspection reports to AICTE regarding the buildings, faculty and other infrastructure facilities in colleges.
