The department of information technology has proposed to introduce a semester in B.Tech courses giving students on job experience while helping the industry at the same time. However, the IT association feels that the industry may not be able to support so many interns. Therefore, the solution may fail to be a real solution.
Incidentally, B.Tech has the highest number of students: More than M.Tech and MCA combined. Each year B.Tech students account for roughly 60 per cent of the 2.1 lakh engineering students in the state. If such a large number of students are to be accommodated each year in the IT industry as interns, it would require major industrial infrastructure such as physical space to accommodate so many interns. Although the plan can be mutually beneficial, the industry as well as the students, the feasibility of the plan is doubtful.
