Azad failed to bring unity: MP

Senior Congress MP from Amalapuram G.V. Harsha Kumar on Sunday lashed out at AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad for failing to bring unity among state leaders and failure of the Congress leadership in doing justice to SCs in the state. Mr Harsha Kumar met Mr Azad in Gandhi Bhavan and pointed out that by induction of two Kapu legislators from the Praja Rajyam into the state Cabinet and dismissing senior SC leader P. Shanker Rao as a minister has sent wrong signals to the SC community, particularly in Konaseema area. Speaking to reporters later, the MP said "We thought that Mr Azad will take steps to strengthen the party in state, but he has failed miserably to bring coordination among the leaders. He has also failed to ensure that the government functions smoothly."

Mr Harsh Kumar lamented that the party leadership is giving more importance to PR leaders than the SCs in the state who have been considered as a strong vote bank of the Congress for decades. “How can they give Cabinet posts to other communities who have not voted for Congress party in last elections and ignore SCs, BCs, STs and minorities who are the backbone of the party,” Mr Kumar wondered. He said that a legislator from the Mala community should have been inducted after the removal of Dr Shanker Rao from the Cabinet.

“This did not happen. A wrong signal has already been sent out across the state,” he said. The MP also demanded a CBI probe into the liquor syndicates in the state as demanded Mr Botsa Satyanarayana.
