The CBI court granted special class status to senior IAS officer B.P. Acharya on Monday. The court made an initial recommendation to the district magistrate to classify the petitioner as “special class” as he fulfils the criteria laid down under Rule 730 of the AP Prison Rules. The CBI did not object to the recommendation because he fulfils the criteria.

B.P. Acharya thus joins the other accused — Gali Janardhan Reddy, B.V. Srinivas Reddy, V.D. Rajagopal and Y. Srila-kshmi — who have special class status in the Obulapuram Mining Company illegal mining case.
