Three students of SRM Easwari Engineering College in the city have developed a multi-terrain vehicle that can do surveillance, fishing and other activities both on land and underwater.
The students displayed their vehicle at Kurukshetra, Anna University’s annual technical festival, on Saturday.
M. Ashwath, a final-year mechanical engineering student said that he and his team mates had developed the multi-terrain vehicle according to the specifications provided by the Kurukshetra team.
“Our vehicle has two parts, mother and the child. The mother boat will travel on land and interact with the user interface handled by us, besides deploying the child under the water. The child will then go underwater and start its surveillance,” he said.
The young innovator pointed out that while the child goes underwater the mother waits on the surface and does fishing as it has been fitted with a fishing net and other devices.
“The child in our vehicle is also fitted with devices to record underwater temperature and monitor climatic change. It will also collect samples from under the water for us to do experiments and learn more about climatic changes,” said S. Sanjushree, a third-year electronics and communication engineering student.
R.S. Rajasegar, another member of the team pursuing final year electronics and communication engineering said that they spent Rs 7,000 to develop this vehicle that they plan to upgrade with more features like high speed motor to increase the speed of the vehicle under water.
