The district registrar of Kancheepuram has set a precedence on how to protect land grab victims from land sharks.
On receiving a complaint from Sri Subramaniyapuram residents welfare association about illegal construction of a house on land earmarked for children’s playground, Kancheepuram district registrar G. Anburaj ordered an inquiry by the Tiruttani sub-registrar.
After the inquiry, the sub-registrar marked as “bogus registration” on the document 4213/2008 available with the registration department.
Mr V.R. Seshadri, vice-president of Sri Subramaniyapuram residents welfare association, had complained that Mr Gadatharan, former secretary of another unregistered association in the colony, had illegally sold plot No. 41, earmarked for children’s playground in survey No. 271/17, to a person who later constructed a house on the land.
“Immediately after registering our association in January 2009, we urged the person not to construct the house on that plot, but he did. We also obtained a stay in July that year,” Mr Seshadri pointed out.
Mr Anburaj confirmed to Deccan Chronicle that it was illegal to construct a house on a plot earmarked for playground in the plan approved by the department of town and country planning.
He has also instructed the Tiruttani sub-registrar to help them file an FIR (first information report) with the police.
