Marina to witness bull run on Sunday

Get set for a bull run this Sunday at Marina Beach. Investothon, a unique marathon to focus on investor safety will be held in Chennai on February 5, at a time when police have been flooded with complaints from cheated investors.

Investothon, which has been organised by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) with a media network, is a symbolic run for the cause of safe investing. The idea behind the run is to pledge for a strong In-
dian capital market and a healthy market outlook and to empower investors, say the organisers.

“This is an initiative to speak about the dos and don’ts of trading,” said a NSE spokesperson. “It’s a challenging time with a lot of volatility in the market and this is an endeavour to create awareness about safe investment decisions,” the official said.

The symbolic run includes a 4 km, 3 km and 1 km run and is expected to be attended by corporates, investors, school and college students. The Madras Chamber of Commerce and the Madras Management Association are also expected to participate in the run.

The run is the fourth in the series that began in Mumbai in March. The Mumbai marathon saw about 2,500 people take part, while Delhi and Ahmedabad saw around 3,500 people joining the race.

“We hope to see a similar response in Chennai and are looking at tapping the young talent who are future investors,” the NSE official said.

“Economic offences are on the rise in the state and it is certainly an interesting initiative by NSE,” said P.R. Venmathy, SP, Economic Offences Wing.

There are many people operating against RBI guidelines and it is time that investors wake up to such fraudulent practices, she said.
