Even as a few religious fanatics are gearing up to protest against Valentine’s day that falls on Tuesday, a few posters calling for support of lovers are catching the attention of motorists and pedestrians crossing Vadapalani signal along 100 feet road in Chennai.

The posters, stuck by ‘All India Lovers Party’ with slogans in favour of love and lovers, also claim the party strives to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and so on. Party president Kumar Sri Sri is undeterred by criticism over the years, and is determined to distribute sweets to lovers on Marina beach on V-day, despite receiving threats from unidentified persons.

He has written to the DGP and CoP seeking protection from fanatical groups on Valentine’s day.

He is also looking forward to know the outcome of a PIL he filed in the Madras HC, which is expected Monday, seeking a direction to the authorities to provide protection to him and direct others not to belittle Valentine’s day celebrations by organising marriages of donkeys and monkeys.

He has even created a website (www.indianloversparty.com) and has been helping lovers in distress through it.

Mr Sri, who had a love marriage, had to face stiff opposition from both sides, and so decided to do something for lovers in distress.

“I started the lovers party in 2008 and have helped more than 20 pairs get married after pacifying their parents,” he says. The expenses were borne by his trust with funds from the party members (reportedly 1 lakh members). “I am also planning to register my party.”

In Tiruvallur, Muslim outfit Towheed Jamad has stuck anti-Valentine’s day posters.
