Jaya announces special aid for sportspersons

Chief minister J. Jayalalit-haa on Thursday announced special scholarship for famed sportspersons.

According to an official press release, five sportspersons will be selected and imparted high quality training to enable them excel at various international sport-smeets. She also allotted Rs 1.25 crore per year for the training.

Besides, the government also announced a slew of measures for developing sports.

The CM has doubled the incentives given to national level winners from among school students from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 and from Rs 6,500 to Rs 13,500 for college students. the incentives were doubled as part of the state’s efforts to encourage students actively participate in sports. the release said.

The CM has also allotted Rs 50 lakh for winners of the chief minister’s cup. While first prize winners will get Rs 1 lakh, the runner up and second runner up will get Rs 75,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.

Also, one village in every district would be selected to develop sports and encourage sportspersons.
