There was utter chaos in the Chennai corporation council meeting Wednesday and DMK floor leader Subash Chandra Bose was once again attacked by the ruling AIADMK councillors, only this time it was the women councillors who pounced on him and used foul language.
The problem started after mayor Saidai Duraisamy made a remark against former mayor M. Subramanian and alleged that the then DMK council was partial while evaluating property taxes of IT companies resulting in financial loss to the civic body.
This brought the DMK councillors to their feet and they objected to the statement and insisted that the ‘baseless’ remark be removed from the council proceedings.
Even as the argument continued, women councillors Karpagam and Velankanni targetted on DMK floor leader Subash Chandra Bose and used foul language. The mayor’s effort to control the unruly behaviour of his party members proved futile and the DMK members started protesting.
This led to the mayor ordering the eviction of all the DMK members who walked out of the council. They told reporters that they were ill-treated and humiliated inside the council. Mr Bose said, “There is no democracy inside the council hall and the opposition members were evicted for protesting democratically. We came to raise different civic issues, including the mosquito menace and garbage stagnation, at the council meeting, but the mayor chased us out.”
Earlier in the day, the mayor, and corporation commissioner P.W.C. Davidar kickstarted the plastic collection drive aimed at generating low micron plastic to be used for laying city roads.
