PESIT students design car that drives itself

July 17: This mode of urban transport for the future, promises to free the user from the hassles of driving. It’s been designed by the mechanical engineering students of PES Institute of Technology (PESIT), one of the seven teams competing.

They are all set to present their project at the Vancouver Global Forum of PACE (Partners in Advanced Collaborative Engineering) from July 27 to 30 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Called ‘sustainable urban transport for 2030’, the highlight of the project, according to the college, is the concept of autonomous driving, where the car can self-maneuver through Indian roads while giving the driver complete freedom from driving. The design is said to include various features like in-place turning, drive-by wire, steer-by wire and interactive GPS frontal display, to name a few.

“This is an excellent opportunity for these future engineers to gain exposure on a global level, interact with industry experts and showcase their technical skills to the world. The institute has had a long-standing partnership with PACE and since then, students have collaborated with their counterparts from other PACE institutes across the world, to produce the best possible results,” according to Prof. Jawahar D., Director, PES Institutions. These seven teams will compete against each other in the final PACE annual global forum, where the best idea will be chosen based on various parameters like design ingenuity, product feasibility, collaborative skills and overall functionality.
