Is this Namma Bengaluru or UP, Bihar? Ask Nithin’s parents

This is Bengaluru, we have lived here all our lives. But what is happening to it? Is it turning into another Bihar where there is so much lawlessness? If people start shooting at each other over such trivial matters how does it reflect on the city? Are there no police or is this a goonda raj we are living in?” demands visibly shaken and angry G.N. Lingaraju, father of 13 year old Nithin, who was injured in the shooting on Sunday night in Sadashivanagar in yet another case of road rage iin the city .

Mr Lingaraju, who owns a small car rental business, was returning home with his family, when the white Honda Civic car tried to overtake them from the wrong side. “Our driver only asked, what are you doing and the next moment, the youth in the Civic fired at us. When we sped away, they came from behind us and began shooting again,” narrates Mr Lingaraju.

One of the pellets from the air gun hit Nithin on the left side of his head, near his ear, but the family realised it only later.

“After shooting at us, the youth just drove away. When I asked, if everyone was fine, Nithin didn’t reply and it was then that I noticed the blood. The police must catch these people ,they shoud be brought to justice” says a teary eyed, Ambika, Nithin's mother, who adds the family was afraid the shooters would return back as it waited for the ambulance to arrive.

“The police arrived only after the ambulance came,” she recalls. On arriving at the KC General hospital the parents were devasted to find there were nobody there to attend to them.

“We want to file a complaint against KC General hospital. We went through such horror as there was nobody on duty. They told us to take Nithin to Nimhan after almost two hours,” Mr Lingaraju adds angrily Even at NIMHANS the child was taken to casualty only at around 2.29 am after all the formalities were gone through.

All Nithin himself remembers is being scared when the Honda Civic pulled up next to his car.

“I was scared when they started shooting. After that all I remember is I was bleeding and my parents were shouting for help.”

I strongly object to their comparison of the two places. We, Biharis have seen a past which every one will want to forget. The situation has improved in Bihar under the governance of Nitish Kumar.
As a human being, I have deep sympathy with Nithin and his parents, but these type of comments show their mentality towards other states.
