Soon after the electronic media flashed visuals of co-operation minister Laxman Savadi and women and child development minister C.C. Patil watching porn clippings on the floor of the Legislative Assembly, activists of Kannada Rakshana Vedike barged into the official residence of both ministers situated in the Seven Ministers’ quarters. The police swung into action and arrested 30 Vedike activists.
The activists shouted slogans against the BJP government and demanded the resignation of the ministers. The police stopped them near the gate and took them to the City Armed Reserved (CAR) south division at Koramangala. Both ministers remained ‘underground’ till the police brought the situation under control. Additional police personal have been deployed at the gates with the police keeping the media away. The personal assistant of Mr Savadi reached his residence at 9.15 pm and brought documents pertaining to the proceedings of the state legislature.
At around 9.45 pm, Mr Savadi appeared before the media and defended himself. He claimed the mobile belonged to fisheries minister Krishna Palemar and they were watching the visuals of the rave party held at Udupi. Replying to a question, Mr Savadi said he would not resign owing moral responsibility. “I have not committed any sin or crime. We were watching rave party visuals in the mobile of Mr Palemar. I have requested him to save the contents of the visuals”, Mr Savadi told reporters.
Meanwhile, a protest was organised in Mangalore against Mr Savadi and district in-charge minister J. Krishna Palemar. Youth Congress organized the protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue at Lalbagh while the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) protested at Kulur. The protestors demanded the resignation of the ministers.
