The State government will remain decidedly cool to the stand of Chief Justice Vikramjit Sen on recalling of Upa Lokayukta, Justice Chandrashekaraiah even as the latter himself asserted that there was no question of him quitting the post.
Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda gave hint of such a posture when he told Deccan Chronicle on Saturday, “We have followed the procedure while appointing Justice Chandrashekaraiah. We cannot remove him from the post merely on the basis of the Chief Justice’s letter”. Mr Gowda explained that the government had sought the opinion of leaders of Opposition and Assembly Speaker Mr K.G. Bopaiah, as part of the process of appointment. “To recall him from the post, we must have sound reasons. The government cannot suo motu initiate impeachment process,” the CM added. Meanwhile, Governor H.R. Bhardwaj said at Raj Bhavan: “If the state government is willing to bring in a proposal to remove the Upa Lokayukta, then I’m ready to sign it.
