Bidari faces KAT heat over police officer’s transfer

Taking strong exception to DG&IGP Shankar Bidar disobeying its order, the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) has ordered for suo motu criminal contempt proceedings against him.

While hearing the application of Mr H.D. Mudareddi , Inspector of Police working at Mudhol circle, KAT Chairman A.C. Kabbin and Administrative Member Abhijit Dasgupta on Wednesday ordered for criminal contempt proceedings against Mr Bidari.

The KAT had stayed the transfer of Mr Mudareddi on December 16, 2011. The tribunal has categorically directed the DGP that Mr Mudareddi should be continued in Mudol circle. It further observed that the transfer order of Mr Mudareddi to Dharwad was premature in nature and it cannot be implemented.

Though the stay order was in force, the DG&IGP and Dharwad SP issued a fresh order on January 5 stating that stay order could not be implemented because Mr Mudareddi had not reported for duty at Mudol station on January 15, the day he was transferred from that station.

Mr Mudareddi again challenged the endorsement before the same bench and the judges took strong exception to disobeying the court order and ordered for suo motu case against Mr Bidari.

However, the court has given liberty to the State government that it would reconsider its decision if Mr Bidari tenders unconditional apology to the court after restoring the earlier order of the court.
