BIA taxis back, with a fare hike

Taxi services to the Bengaluru International Airport are back to normal. Taxi operators, who were protesting against collection of toll on the way back from the airport at Sadarahalli Gate, have decided to withdraw their agitation and approach the Union government for relief. The taxi drivers said the Rs 25 toll would be passed on to the passengers.

“There is no point in continuing with the strike as the State Government can do nothing about it. We would only incur losses by stopping services to the airport. But various organisations have planned to meet representatives of the Union government and senior officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to put across their demands. We will pay the toll at Sadarhalli Gate,” said General Secretary, Banaglore Tourist Taxi Owners’ Association, K. Radhakrishna Holla.

With this, taxi fares to the airport will go up by Rs 25. “Whenever tolls are introduced, the burden is transferred to the passenger. As of now the fares stand increased and will be revised only when the NHAI introduces monthly passes for the cabs,” he said. On an average, one-way trip to the airport from the City in a taxi costs Rs 500 to 650 in non-air conditioned cabs. In a luxury cab, it goes up to Rs 1,000. Passengers will now have to bear the additional Rs 25 towards the toll.
