Feb. 8: Now you can pay Rs 25 extra and receive delivery of your LPG cylinder in three hours! If not delivered on time, avail a discount of Rs 50.
To improve the delivery time of LPG cylinders, the petroleum ministry has approved a scheme, where customers who pay Rs 25 extra will get it within three hours. In case the PSU oil marketing companies fail to deliver the cylinder in three hours they will have to give the customer a discount of Rs 50.
“We have sent it to the oil marketing companies (OMCs) and it is now upto them how to implement it,” said a senior official from the petroleum ministry. The government will review the schemes after three months of its implementation.
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) director (marketing), Mr G.C. Daga hoped that the scheme will be implemented in less than two months. “It is under discussions. We need to resolve some issues before launching it,” said Mr Daga.
This scheme has been launched in view of complaints received from all over India about delay in delivery of gas cylinders.
There have also been allegations of some gas agencies diverting the LPG cylinders meant for the domestic consumption to black marketers. The LPG cylinders meant for domestic consumption are subsidised by the government and can’t be used for the commercial purposes.
However, one finds that there is rampant use of domestic LPG cylinders for the commercial purposes. Most of the hotels in Delhi and its surroundings could be seen using the domestic LPG. Due to this genuine customers suffer.
There have also been talks of tagging the LPG cylinders with radio frequency ID (RFID) chips, which would help in tracking the movement of each cylinder.

This scheme will increase the commercial use of domestic cylinder instead of curbing it.Also the genuine consumer ,who prefers to take delivery of the cylinder in normal course, will get delayed delivery as some of the stocks will be diverted to the new scheme.Instead of this new scheme,it is better to fix a clear cut delivery time and if the dealer does not supply on time,a discount of Rs.50 may be paid to regular consumer
