Sept. 8: Mercedes-Benz E-class, the bread and butter vehicle of the leading luxury car manufacturer, has been phased out, the company announced. The E-class range of executive-size cars has been the firm’s growth driver for years.
“Mercedes-Benz phases out a car every seven years. A new car of the same class will make its way into India soon,” the director of sales and marketing in India, Mr Debasis Mitra, said.
The carmaker on Tuesday launched the India special edition C-Class — a compact luxury car in Bengaluru.
Mr Mitra said the firm has made an investment of Rs 250 crore for its new production facility in Chakkan, Pune.
During the year, the carmaker is also investing around Rs 150 crore for expansion and upgradation of network partners. “Mercedes-Benz has the largest network of any luxury players in the country, with a presence across 25 cities, represented by more than 45 dealerships,” he said.
Mercedes has also launched its third-generation Actros 4841K in Pune on Tuesday.
The firm is setting up a manufacturing unit in Chennai as a part of a Rs 4,500-crore investment plan to manufacture commercial vehicles for the Indian and export market.
