Kolkata, July 3: The Indian Railw-ays will set up a new coach factory in Kanchrapara in West Bengal.
The railway minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, has also proposed to set up a thermal power plant with 1000 MW generating capacity at Adra in Purulia.
Ms Banerjee also said that the railway ministry was in constant touch with the ministry of heavy industries to take over wagon units of the Burn Standard.
In her budget speech, she said, “I am happy to announce the setting up of a new coach factory with state-of-the-art facility to manufacture about 500 such coaches per annum in the Kanchrapara-Halisahar railway complex.”
This unit will be set up in public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
The railway minister also iterated the railways ministry’s initiative for taking over wagon units of the Burn Standard.
