New car sales in India rose 61 per cent year on year in November to 133,687 units, industry data showed on Tuesday.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, which issued the figures, gave no reason for the rise, but India's economy has been recovering strongly in recent months amid surging confidence.
Furthermore, sales were extremely weak last November because of the global financial crisis.
Indian car groups have already reported their sales figures for the month, showing strong results aided by domestic and overseas demand.
Maruti Suzuki India, the country's top passenger car maker, said sales rose 67 per cent to 87,807 vehicles in November.
