SRINAGAR: The GST Council which met here Thursday for a healthy brainstorming session is reported to have finalised tax rates on eighty to ninety percent of goods and services under the four-slab structure with essential items of daily use being kept in the lowest bracket of 5 per cent.
The crucial 14th GST Council held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre overlooking the Dal Lake was chaired by Union finance minister, Arun Jaitley, and attended by finance ministers, finance secretaries and other taxation officials from all the states and union territories. The meet also approved are the rules for the GST regime that is scheduled to come into effect from July 1, sources said.
