Uber in talks with Indian Railways to hitch passengers: Reports

The deal could add around Rs 150 crore in annual railway revenue.

Uber has proposed Indian Railways to integrate its ride hailing service with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website to hitch passengers to and from railway stations in various cities.

However, Uber did not specify which cities will likely to receive their service.

In a statement to Economic times, a spokesperson revealed that the deal could add around Rs 150 crore in annual railway revenue, generated from commission on cab booking and parking space allotted at stations to Uber.

“We are seriously considering this proposal and a decision could be taken soon. The revenue model with Uber is yet to be finalised,” cited a railway official.

Additionally, according to media reports, the India-based ride hailing service Ola is also looking forward to tie up with Indian Railways to pick-up and drop railway passengers.
