Data war goes on as Vodafone brings 2GB data, unlimited calls for Rs 148

Mumbai: It is a known fact that India's telecom operators do not want to lose out on market share of country's huge telecom sector due to arrival of Reliance Jio. Vodafone cannot stay behind in the race for surviving in the business. The second largest telecom operator has come up with a new data plan that also offers an unlimited voice calling pack.

Vodafone is offering 2GB data and unlimited voice calling for just Rs 148 for a period of 28 days. The UK-headquartered company's India arm has listed the new scheme in its SuperPlans category.

The company confirmed this on its MyVodafone app: "Vodafone's recharge pack priced at Rs 148 comes with 2 GBs of 4G speed mobile data for customers using a 4G handset and a 4G SIM," NDTV said.

Under the Rs 148 plan, outgoing calls made to non-Vodafone networks would cost 1 paisa per second, Vodafone said. The company added those users who have 4G handset without a 4G SIM will get only 300 MB data. It further clarified those using other handsets will get 50MB data.

The company mentioned the Rs 148 plan in MyVodafone mobile app and included the scheme under SuperPlans category. Vodafone's SuperPlans offers a slew of unlimited calls, apart form giving other benefits.

Vodafone had earlier taken up with sector regulator TRAI the issue of interconnect usage charge, IUC, or call termination charge. Lat week TRAI more than halved IUC for telecom companies from 14 paise to 6 paise, a decision that has not gone down well with incumbent companies.

Before the IUC was brought down, Vodafone had argued with TRAI that 14 paise was not the actual cost of receiving, connecting and ending a voice call from an originating network. It had went on to say it was 35-36 paise that was actual cost for a telecom company to connect an incoming call. IUC is paid by the call originating network to the call receiving company.
