Ceramic companies eye Rs 50,000 crore turnover

Jetpariya said, We want to achieve the No. 1 position in the global ceramic market in next 5-6 years.

Hyderabad: The ceramic industry in India has set an ambitious target to become a global leader by doubling its turnover to Rs 50,000 crore by 2020, Vibrant Ceramics Expo and Summit-2017 president Nilesh Jetpariya said on Friday.

Ahead of the expo, which will be held from November 16-19 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Mr Jetpariya said, “We want to achieve the No. 1 position in the global ceramic market in next 5-6 years.”

With 40 per cent market share, China, currently, tops the global ceramic market but India, which contributes to 12.9 per cent, earns around Rs 25,000 crore. Of this, Morbi in Gujarat contributes to over 90 per cent of revenues to the sector, according to Mr Jetpariya.

He said, “We want to make the ceramic industry, export-driven and become a global leader... The ceramic industry resolves to double turnover to Rs 50,000 crore by 2020.”

The 2017 edition aims to attract 2,500 buyers from across the world, which represents more than 60 per cent of global ceramic industry. Over 250 exhibitors and delegates are also attending, he said.

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State together contribute to '1,000 crore revenues to the ceramics, he said.

Reacting to a query, he said Andhra Pradesh government had planned to set up a ceramic cluster and “We had discussion with the government.”
