ICAI urge members to submit PAN details

Failure by members to submit the details will result in IT dept blocking their e-filing accounts.

New Delhi: Chartered accountants' apex body ICAI has urged members to submit their PAN details to it as failure to do so will result in the income tax department blocking their e-filing accounts.

This comes against the backdrop of many ICAI members who use electronic filing account with the income tax department not submitting the Permanent Account Number (PAN) details to the institute.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), set up by an Act of Parliament, is an apex body for chartered accountants. "Filing account of the members, who have not provided their PAN details to the institute but are using e-filing account with the income tax department, will be blocked by the income tax authorities after April 30, 2017 in case the same is not updated," ICAI said.

In a recent communication, the institute has also asked its members to ensure that there is no mismatch in details about them in the ICAI and PAN databases. Citing the income tax department, the institute said due to mismatch in the name in the central database of ICAI and the PAN database, the e-filing account in such cases would also be blocked.

"... there are still many members who have not yet provided their PAN details in the central database of ICAI," the communication, dated April 19, said. ICAI has asked the members in practice to update their PAN details latest by April 27.

In case of failure to do so, the institute said it has been informed that the income tax department would block the e-filing account of members whose PAN details are not available with ICAI as well as of those where there is mismatch in names in the two databases.
