Hyderabad: Hyderabad got off to a superb start in the sixth edition of the Rajiv Gandhi All India Under 19 Twenty20 cricket championship that got underway at the Amberpet (Water Works) ground here on Thursday.

The home side defeated Nepal by 69 runs as Samhith Reddy turned in an allround performance. Samhith scored an unbeaten 62 to help Hyderabad post 198 for 5 in 20 overs before coming back to shine with the ball too by taking two wickets while conceding 12 runs. He was well supported by Owais scored 30 and also took two wickets as Nepal managed 129 for 8 in their stipulated overs.

The other three matches — between Bihar and Rajasthan, Vidarbha and Andaman-Nicobar, and Malaysia and Tamil Nadu — turned out to be low-scoring affairs with teams not even crossing the 75-run mark.
