BHUBANESWAR: Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, will spend Rs 6,000 crore in Odisha on system improvements through technology adoptions, building and strengthening the physical infrastructures for reliable and quality power to consumers across segments, including domestic, industries and agriculture.
Speaking to this newspaper on the sidelines of ‘Make in Odisha Conclave 2022,’ Tata Power CEO & MD Dr Praveer Sinha said the company has already spent Rs 1,500 in Odisha and the proposed Rs 6,000 crore will be spent in next four years. In Odisha, the four Tata Power Discoms —TPCODL, TPNODL, TPSODL, and TPWODL-- serve around one crore consumers. All four distribution utilities are operating under a public-private partnerships (PPP) model with a 51 per cent stake held by Tata Power.
“The focused operations across the four Discoms are leading to continuous improvements as various technical, commercial and customer-related initiatives have helped the Discoms to reduce technical losses,” claimed Dr Sinha.
The top executive said his company was expanding its green energy generation footprints in Odisha.
“Currently, we are producing 25 megawatts power from solar energy sources. We want to scale it up to 1,000 megawatt in the next four years. Besides, we are trying to supply solar power to remote villages in the state,” said Dr Sinha.
To query on the employment opportunities Tata Power has generated in Odisha so far, Dr Sinha said, "We have already employed 11,000 persons, including ITI passouts, junior engineers and IT professionals. In the past 2 years, we have recruited 2,000 persons."
