2017 Triumph Speed Triple to be launched in September

Triumph is planning to introduce its flagship motorcycle in the naked bike segment.

Since entering the Indian market in 2013, British bikemaker Triumph has seen a massive growth in the country. Last year the demand grew by 67 per cent, and now Triumph is planning to introduce its flagship motorcycle in the naked bike segment, the 2017 Speed Triple. The new Speed Triple was first showcased at the 2015 EICMA motor show in Milan, Italy, and it features the same design language as its predecessor but with sharper lines and more details.

The bike is powered by an upsized 1050cc, triple-cylinder engine which develops 140PS @ 9500rpm and a peak torque of 112Nm @ 7850rpm, mated to a six-speed gearbox. It gets sharper looking headlamps, built-in DRLs, LED turn indicators, twin seats, bar-end mirrors, narrower and sharper looking fuel tank and dual matt black under seat exhaust with aluminium heat shields. The bike is constructed around a twin-spar frame. Suspension duties are handled by 43mm Showa USD forks with 120mm travel at the front and Showa monoshock unit with 130mm travel at the rear.

The bike gets 320mm semi-floating discs at the front with 4-piston radial Brembo caliper at the front and single 255mm disc with Nissin caliper at the rear. Assisting the mechanical bits, Triumph has offered the bike with ride-by-wire throttle control, slipper clutch, switchable traction control, switchable ABS and five riding modes – Rain, Road, Sport, Track and a customizable rider mode which lets riders select the electronics in a way that suits his/her riding technique and surrounding conditions.

Triumph

The new Speed Triple is expected to be priced around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Once launched, it will take the likes of Ducati Monster 1200, Suzuki GSX-S1000, BMW S1000R and the recently launched Kawasaki Z1000.
