India-bound Next-Gen Honda CR-V Spied

For the first time ever since its inception, the 2018 Honda CR-V is expected to be available with a turbocharged petrol option.

The next-generation Honda CR-V is on expedition. Recently, it was spied testing in the Mojave desert in the United States, probably to test the car in hot-weather conditions. Honda is expected to unveil the crossover/SUV in early 2017, with the sales beginning from mid-2017 in the US. India didn't get even the updated, current-gen CR-V though it went on sale internationally last year. We are not expecting the next-gen CR-V to enter the Indian territory soon. Honda may launch it in India in 2018 or even later.

The 2018 CR-V is likely to feature an engine from Honda’s first-ever turbo petrol clan. The motor we are talking about – the 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo – debuted with the tenth-generation Civic, and produces close to 176PS of power and 219Nm of max torque. Besides the new 1.5-litre turbo, the CR-V is also expected to continue the current set of powertrain options, including the 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel in European countries (expected in India).

The new CR-V will have features and styling cues from the latest Hondas – the Civic and the facelifted ninth-generation Honda Accord to be specific (both India-bound). The elements that are being borrowed are ones such as the all-LED headlights and tail lamps, the latest-generation HondaLink infotainment system, and others.Speaking of the platform, the next-gen CR-V will have the Civic’s new lightweight modular chassis, which will shed its weight considerably compared to the current version.
