Production-spec Tata Harrier leaked, bookings open

Tata Motors has begun accepting bookings for the Harrier, which is expected to be launched in January 2019.

Tata has been teasing the Harrier for quite some time now and with the launch expected in January 2019, the Indian carmaker has begun accepting bookings for the SUV. Pre-launch bookings can be made for a sum of Rs 30,000 through Harrier’s official website or by visiting a nearby Tata Motors dealership.

A leaked image of the Harrier has revealed the rear three quarters of the SUV. Multiple spy shots of the Harrier have emerged online since its concept version, the H5X, was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. Since then Tata itself released testing videos of the SUV, albeit wearing camouflage.

The leaked image reveals that the Tata Harrier will get flared wheel arches. The model seen in the picture is equipped with five-spoke alloy wheels, which look rather small for an SUV. It also has a high shoulder line that continues all the way back till the tail lamps. The B-pillar is blacked out and behind the C-pillar is triangular quarter glass which instantly catches the eye.

The tail lamps themselves are very sleek and compliment the DRLs up front. Just like the front, the Harrier also gets a silver faux skid plate with the rear bumper. The rear windshield is raked and atop it sits a spoiler. The design of the Harrier, as evident in the leaked image, is similar to the H5X concept that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Tata will be offering a 2.0-litre diesel engine underneath the Harrier’s bonnet. The Harrier was recently spied with an automatic transmission, indicating that there will be an automatic variant as well. The Tata Harrier is likely to snuggle in the small gap that exists in the SUV market between the Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass. We expect the upcoming Tata Harrier to be priced around the Rs 15 lakh mark.
