Kawasaki Z650 to likely replace the ER-6n in India

Kawasaki says that the Z650 draws inspiration from the Z1000's Sugomi design.

Kawasaki has revealed the details of the new Kawasaki Z650 and the Z900 ahead of their debut at the EICMA Motor Show in Milan, Italy, next month, in November 2016. The two new bikes, whose details are revealed, will also likely be a replacement to the ER-6n and the Z800 respectively.

Kawasaki says that the Z650 draws inspiration from the Z1000’s Sugomi design. It will sure be a better looker than the ER-6n in terms of body styling, with sharp and aggressive traits and angular looks.

Equipment-wise, the Kawasaki Z650 and the Z900 will get improved technical features as the multi-function LCD screen, gear position indicator, analog tachometer, etc.

On the mechanical front, Kawasaki has made the engine Euro IV compliant. The Z650 gets powered by a 649 cc engine that pumps out 69 bhp, which is a downsized tune to the original 71 bhp tuning of the engine.

While the weight has been dropped by about 19 kilograms, the drop in power output is justified, while fuel efficiency has also improved by 6.8 percent. The engine mated to a 6-speed transmission comes with a slipper clutch.

As far as the body is concerned, the swingarm has been replaced with a new 3.9 kg unit. The Z650 also gets a new steel trellis frame, whose weight is only 15 kg. The rear monoshock suspension has also been moved to a very usual position with the swing arm above.

The Kawasaki Z650 will likely have its international debut and launch before it reaches India. The price of the motorcycle is also likely to be on the higher side for its displacement.
